The 8th Darlington Scout Group is an independent group founded in April 1915 in Cockerton. We have been meeting at our current headquarters (The Den) since the 1960's and we host the Garden Fete on Cockerton Green in June every year.

We enrich the lives of young people in Darlington through providing a varied Scouting programme - including our style of patrol camping we have been practising since the group's foundation.
The documentary film below, made by the Seniors Troop in 2017, depicts life at summer camp with our special group.

Mission
We aim to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, responsible citizens and members of their local, national and international communities.
About the Group
The 8th Darlington (Cockerton Green) Scout Group was founded in April 1915 and has met in a variety of locations in and around the Cockerton area during its 100 years. We have been meeting at our current Headquarters (The Den) since the 1960s.
All our leaders are volunteers, many having passed up through the Group themselves.
We are a registered charity and all our funds are received through charitable donations, grants and at various fundraising events throughout the year.
FAQs
How is an independent Scout group different to one in the Scout Association?
Our group offers a unique Scouting experience with a greater focus on tradition and patrol camping. Our group holds classic Scouting skills and values at its core, providing a flexible programme that caters to the specific interests of our members.
With more autonomy, we can uphold traditional Scouting activities and foster a close-knit community, ensuring a rich, hands-on adventure that nurtures practical skills and lasting friendships.

What we're doing works! In 2015, we celebrated our centenary and had over 100 active members of the group.
